Dumpster Rental Indianapolis

Renting a Dumpster for the First Time, Don’t be Scared!

Are you like me and have family members who tend to keep way too much stuff, making the thought of moving extremely stressful?

I realized while moving my own things out of the clutter that if I ever had to move them, I’d probably need to rent a dumpster. Honestly, it would be great if I could just get them to downsize some stuff now, but instead, I dread the move someday!

However, the thought of needing to rent a dumpster adds a whole different level of stress. I’ve never rented one before, so multiple questions ran through my brain. Luckily for me, James Coppola from Bin There Dump That Indianapolis was able to answer all my questions:

How do I know if I really need a dumpster?
Many clients donate what they can, send unwanted items to neighbors or family members, but they’re often still left with so much junk! This is the point where they give us a call to go over the dumpster rental options they have for decluttering their lives.

What sizes of dumpsters are available, and which size do I need?
We typically offer 3 different sizes for homeowners: the 10, 15, or 20-cubic yard bins. If you don’t have many large items and it’s mostly boxes and bags of junk, the 10-yard dumpster is perfect. The 15 and 20-yard dumpsters are better for bulkier items like furniture and mattresses. https://www.indianapolisdumpsterrental.net/dumpster-rentals/

What is the cost of the dumpster?
The cost depends on the size of the dumpster, with most starting around $350. A complete cost breakdown can be found on our website here:

Are there any items that can’t go in the dumpsters?
Yes, hazardous materials can’t be disposed of in the dumpster. These include items like gas, paint, oil, tires, and anything containing freon (like refrigerators, freezers, and air conditioning units).  Check out our list here: https://www.indianapolisdumpsterrental.net/where-can-i-properly-dispose-of-restricted-and-toxic-materials/

What happens if something goes in that shouldn’t?
Typically, this isn’t an issue, as we clearly go over prohibited items during the initial phone call. Customers are also given a list of items that aren’t allowed. We encourage anyone with questions about what’s okay to dispose of to call us anytime.

Is there a safety cover for nighttime to prevent my neighbors from tossing things in?
The Residential Friendly dumpsters we deliver have open tops, with 2 easy-to-open rear access doors for convenient walk-in loading. For the most part, we don’t see unauthorized individuals using someone else’s dumpster. When the dumpster is scheduled to be picked up, our delivery experts will tarp the bin at the customer’s address to ensure that all contents stay inside until they arrive at the approved disposal location.

What about a weight limit? Is there one?
Yes, there is a weight limit. A typical household junk removal or remodel will stay well within these limits:

  • The 10-yard dumpster includes up to 2 tons of waste (4,000 lbs).
  • The 15-yard dumpster includes up to 3 tons of waste (6,000 lbs).
  • The 20-yard dumpster includes up to 3.5 tons of waste (7,000 lbs).

Is there anything I need to prepare for before the delivery?
Make sure you have a solid, level area where you’d like the dumpster placed. We always use wood boards under the dumpster to prevent scraping or marking up your property. The majority of our deliveries are made to customers’ driveways, leaving room for personal vehicles.

What about after I’m done and it’s ready for pick-up?
Once you’re finished, you can simply call our office to confirm it’s ready for pick-up. Our typical rental period is 7 days, but some folks finish sooner, while others may take a little longer.

What if I need more time and want to extend my rental?
Dumpster rentals can be extended if a project is delayed. The cost for an extension is typically $20 per day.

What if I have too much stuff and need a bigger dumpster?
That can happen! We always try to get the appropriate size right from the start, but if you find you have more junk than expected, we’re happy to upgrade to a larger size. If you’re unsure, we often suggest going with the next size up, as many customers end up purging more than they initially planned.

So, as I mentioned, renting a dumpster for the first time might have you overthinking… I get it! But it will be much easier when you ask the right questions and work with the right experts to create a plan for your move or downsizing. Doing that will help ease your stress and, hopefully, reduce some of that clutter!
